In the city of La Habra community members do not have access to a local farmers market. If residents would like to attend a farmers market where they can have access to fresh local produce, they must drive outside of La Habra to neighboring cities. What the resident leaders would like ,is to establish a local farmers market in the city of La Habra where residents can easily access the fresh, local produce items such as fruit, vegetables and other healhty items for their families in order to better the health of our familes and all residents of the city of La Habra. As a result, the Resident Leadership Academy selected the area as their Community Improvement Project.
Solution:
Resident Leaders will, in order to establish a local Farmers Market, will meet with city members and organizations to help assist in the establishment of the Farmers Market. The Resident Leaders will be meeting monthly with the LA Habra Collaborative's Move More Eat Healthy subcommittee to help in the creation of the farmers market. Resident Leaders will also conduct surveys with the community to assess the needs. This survey will help identify what vendors and products residents and community members would be interested in purchasing from at the Farmers Market.
Current Status:
The members of the Resident Leadership Academy are completing surveys with residents to identify needs at events through out the city. The La Habra collaborative's Move More Eat Healthy subcommittee is currently meeting monthly to asses and implement this project. Next meeting date: July 19, 2018 Location: IHA Multi Purpose Room
